Bill McLaughlin  is a founding member of The Chicago City Limits, and was a writer,  performer and instructor with CCL (New York City’s longest-running improvisational group) from 1977-1982. Mr. McLaughlin studied with Chicago’s legendary Second City director, Del Close and performed under Mr. Close’s direction in “Del Close’s Farewell Salute to Chicago”, one of  Del’s early long form Harold performances that helped lead to his involvement with Improv Olympic (IO) Theatre. In 1983 Bill became a resident company performer and workshop director for The First Amendment Improv Company, working with them for the next 7 years (alumni include Bruce Willis, Kathy Kinney, and Bill's former student John Leguizamo).

 

With the First Amendment Bill appeared on such shows as COMEDY TONIGHT and THE DAVID SUSSKIND show, and when not performing weekly in New York City toured nationally and internationally including a highly successful run with First Amendment at the EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL, Scotland, in 1988. Bill co-directed FOLK CITY’S resident Improv Company ULTRPROV with New York City playwright Tom Corrozza, was a writer/performer for Fox Television's MADE IN NEW YORK, with host Matt Lauer, wrote and performed as the comedy sports historian for ESPN EXTREME SPORTS, was a live improv performer for BBC RADIO, UK, appeared as Woody the repairman/Pip the disgruntled elf/and the Lucky Leprechaun for NICKLEODEON TV, played the lead role in Vestron Video’s COMIC CABBY with co-star Al (Grandpa Munster) Lewis, and appeared on productions for HBO, and A&E, and founded the all female comedy troupe, MEAT.

His credits also include a European tour with the MOSTFOR RUSSIAN CONSTRUCTIVIST THEATRE COMPANY directed by Dr. Mel Gordon of NYU, featuring the works of Anton Chekov, Vsevolod Meyerhold and Nikolai Forregger.

Mr. McLaughlin has worked for over twenty-five years in the corporate sector as an actor, comedian, writer, director, and casting director for Product Launches, Trade Shows, National Sales Meetings, Video and Audio Productions and Special Events throughout the United States and Europe.
Bill shared writer/director/performer duties with partner Joe Perce for their company, CCCP, CORPORATE COMEDY CONCEPTS AND PERSONNEL, producing corporate entertainment throughout the United States and Europe.

 

He is also the former director of Improvisational Instruction at THE MANHATTAN COMEDY SCHOOL and director of Improvisational comedy productions at CAROLINE‘S ON BROADWAY.  He currently teaches Improvisational Performance at Bucks County Community College, Newtown Pennsylvania, and Wickline Casting in Philadelphia and also owns McLaughlin Creative Services: (www.createlaugh.com), a corporate entertainment and team building company.


Bill has a daughter, Madeline, who was born on his birthday. His wife Luanne is a clown, actress, and stilt-walker.
